The final step in the task is comprised of two parts. The first is a composition you are to write in the style of Nathaniel Hawthorne, replete with purposeful use of loose and periodic sentences throughout. You are to adopt the point of view of one of the characters (the decision of which character is left up to you), and you must – as your character – defend the actions of the character in an appeal to the reader of the novel. As loose and periodic sentences are often employed by writers to build and release tension, such effects must be evident and purposefully included in your piece. Be sure to view the rubric before you submit the assignment. The second step is to take the post-quiz. The post quiz is worth 50 points, and you get only one try.
