At this point you should be pretty comfortable knowing the basic structure of loose and periodic sentences.
The next step in this task is to correctly identify ten sentences from chapter 17 of The Scarlet Letter. Read carefully the explanation for how this task will work.
You will respond initially in the same groups as noted in step 3; however, you will not receive credit for this task until the entire class has come to a consensus about the 10 sentences. The process should be as follows:
1. Discuss the ten sentences in your group.
2. Once your group agrees on the identification of the ten sentences, post your findings as a reply to the group thread I have started. You should note briefly your explanation for why you have identified the sentences as you have.
3. Next, view the posted findings of the group with which you are collaborating, making sure each person in the group posts at least one comment on the other group's thread. However you choose to handle this is up to your group members.
4. Then, view the other groups' findings to ensure that everyone agrees. The conclusive findings are to be posted under the thread titled Class Findings.
To ensure that you understand how to properly explain why a sentence is loose or periodic, you might want to take a moment to brush up on your understanding of phrases and clauses. Take a moment to view the resources below if you feel the need to.
This activity is worth 50 points, and the sentences can be found under the thread for your group.
