Read the first page of the "Rhetorical Appeals" handout.
We have discussed logical appeals fairly thoroughly via our work with inductive and deductive reasoning as well as Toulmin's Method. Next, we need to take a closer look at Ethos (ethical appeals) and Pathos (emotional appeals).1) Read the excerpt from Nickel and Dimed in America by Barbara Ehrenreich. - As you do, underline and annotate the text as you normally would. I would not even so much as hint to you how much writing I should see on your paper.
- Fill out the chart which follows the excerpt (on page 119 of the handout).
2) Read the lyrics of the song "Don't Take the Girl" by Tim McGraw- As you do, underline and annotate the text as you normally would. I would not even so much as hint to you how much writing I should see on your paper.
- Answer the questions that follow on the next page.
Bring your completed homework with you on Friday. This does not require any posting on the discussion board.
